Coaching Staff

Below are some of the coaches who have provided their expertise to the JB Soccer Academy throughout the years.
In addition, professional players from DC United are scheduled to make guest appearances in the afternoons (usually Monday afternoon around 2 pm) and provide photo/autograph opportunities with the campers. Alecko Eskandarian, Brian Carroll, Bobby Boswell, Nick Rimando, Santino Quaranta, Milton Reyes, Bryan Namoff, Bobby Convey, Chris Albright, Ivan McKinley, Brandon Prideaux, Carey Talley, AJ Wood, Tony Sanneh, Richie Williams,  Brian Kamler, Ben Olson, Devin Barclay, Jon Maessner, and Clint Peay offered clinics and signed autographs for our campers.

A certified trainer will also be present at the camp at all times.

Staff Credentials

John Bouman, Director
John Bouman grew up in Amsterdam, Holland playing for reputable youth clubs, including the Volewijckers and KMVZ Amsterdam, until the age of 18. In the United States he captained Indiana University of Pennsylvania to the national championships and was drafted by the professional indoor soccer organization, the Pittsburgh Spirit. As a coach, he led Glenelg High School to State and Regional Championships and won Maryland State Cup and division I NCSL championships with the Columbia Crush (1985/86 boys). He recently helped coach Atholton High School boys varsity to four regional final appearances and a State championship. He has coached U-6 through U-19 boys and girls teams during the past 20 years and holds a USSF "A" license and is First Aid and CPR certified.

Justin Ames
Assistant coach at the JB Soccer Academy since the summer of 2002. Played travel soccer for the Soccer Association of Columbia since the age of 8. Past member of the U17 division I and State Cup finalist Columbia Crush and captain of Cardinal Gibbons High School soccer squad. Currently attending Howard Community College.
Don Aro
Goalkeeper coach for the JB Soccer Academy since the summer of 2001. Played travel soccer for the Soccer Association of Columbia since the age of 8. Currently a member of the U17 division I and State Cup finalist Columbia Crush. Senior starter of the Mt. St. Joseph High School soccer squad, 2001 private school state champions.
Chris Boonstra
Coaches and plays soccer in Holland. Currently coach of youth teams in 5 through 8 years age group. Played soccer for 16 years, currently with CVVB, a soccer club in a village near Groningen. Also an enthusiastic indoor soccer player. Currently a student in economics at the university of Groningen, Holland.
Ed Bouman
Played soccer in the streets of Eindhoven and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Played indoor soccer for the University of Amsterdam, and outdoor for Veloc Eindhoven. Traveled to the Czech Republic with SIB United. Has assisted the director at the JB Soccer Academy. Holds master's degrees in law from the Universities of Amsterdam and Durham, England.
Robert Bouman
Robert has volunteer coached and assisted JB since 1997. He has played soccer for 35 years, currently at the Volewijckers in Amsterdam and VVZ in Zaandam, Holland. He has also coached several travel teams. He is a licensed referee in Holland and the United States. During his “free” time, Robert directs and presides over a Dutch entertainment company. In this capacity he has coordinated VIP events for the Euro 2004 soccer championships in Portugal, and the Copa Amsterdam 2005 tournament, where he was the personal guide for the future stars of Brazilian first division team Cruzeiro.
Michael Bouman
Assistant coach at the JB Soccer Academy during the summers of 2002, 2003 and 2004, and head coach of the younger groups during the summers of 2005 and 2006. Played soccer since the age of 5, and travel soccer for the Soccer Association of Columbia since the age of 9. Currently starting defender on the Howard Community College Dragons men's soccer team. He has also played for S.C. Thunder travel soccer teams, and played for the 2004 State champions, and 2005 regional finalists Atholton High School in Columbia, Maryland; also starting midfielder for SC Thunder Ajax, first division Howard County men's 2004, 2005 and 2006 champions.
Sean Bouman
JB Soccer Academy photographer, assistant coach, website assistant manager, and assistant to the director since 2002. Has worked for the Columbia Association and the Volleyball House. He played soccer since the age of 5, and travel soccer for the Soccer Association of Columbia from age 9 through 11. Atholton High School 2005 graduate and currently sophomore at Howard Community College.

Brian Buckus
Coach for the JB Soccer Academy in the summers of 2000 and 2001. Started playing soccer in 1984. Has played on various recreational and travel teams and captain of the River Hill Junior Varsity team in 1997. Currently playing for the Howard Community College Men's team. Was selected to the the Mid-Atlantic All Star team.

Ed Conway
Goalkeeper specialist for the JB Soccer Academy in 2004. Has played and coached extensively for various Howard County Soccer Association of Columbia and S.C. Thunder travel teams. Currently starting goalkeeper for the 10 time Howard County Recreational division I champions, S.C Thunder Ajax.
Patrick Corbett
Assistant coach at the JB Soccer Academy during the summers of 2003 and 2004 and 2005 and 2006 (some head coaching responsibilities in 2006). His knowledge of soccer and growing up in a soccer environment has allowed him to take on increasing coaching responsibilities over the years. Currently starting midfielder onthe Howard Community College Men's soccer team. Played soccer for various travel teams with the Soccer Association of Columbia. He has also played for S.C. Thunder travel soccer teams, and member of the 2004 State champions, and 2005 Regional Finalists, Atholton High School in Columbia, Maryland.
Jamie Copland
Professional soccer player for 5 years with Crystal Palace in England. Also played professional soccer in Scotland and Greece. Selected as captain of district and county teams in England. Coached at the JB Soccer Academy in 1999.
Kevin Daciek
Currently playing for U18 Columbia United premier and four year varsity starter at Atholton High School. Played travel soccer for the Soccer Association of Columbia since the age of 8. Assistant coach at the JB Soccer Academy during the summer of 2002.
Jerome DeFrances
Currently senior starting defender and co-captain for MdDaniel's College soccer team in Westminster, Maryland. Four year varsity starter at Atholton High School. Selected to the Maryland All-State team at the end of his senior year in high school. Former member of the U17 Dundalk Blast. Has coached at the JB Soccer Academy since the summer of 2002.
Alex Douyon
Started as a varsity player and captain of the State High School Champions Oakland Mills, and starting midfielder for the Columbia Crush (85/86 boys travel team). Selected to the Maryland High School All-state team in 2004. Has coached at the JB Soccer Academy since 2003.
Stefan Draganov
Head coach and manager of PFC Locomotiv-Plovoiv from 1991 through 2001. Played professionally for 17 years in Bulgaria. Competed for two years in champions league (at the time: European Cup I). Started in more than 350 professional games and scored 112 goals with FC CSKA Sofia, Bulgaria. Also played professionally for FC Instant DICT Hong Kong and FC Leishoesh - Porto, Portugal. Currently coaching director for the S.C. Thunder Soccer Club, and Head men's coach at Howard Community College. Coach at the JBSA since 2003.
Jennie Folkesson
Began soccer coaching career 11 years ago. Currently girls soccer coach for Long Reach High School. Started playing soccer 22 years ago, including on travel teams since the age of 7. Played for schools and a select district youth team in Sweden. Coach for the JB Soccer Academy since the summer of 2001.
Emma Gormley
Coach at the JB Soccer Academy in 2004 and 2005. Assistant coach in 2004, and head coach of the younger groups in 2005. Three year varsity player and captain during her senior year for the Mount Hebron Vikings. Selected to the Howard County All-County team and nominee for the Maryland All-State team. Played for WAGS division I travel teams. State Cup finals runner up. Ranked 1st in class. Currently junior in college.
Sarah Grady
Assistant coach for the JB Soccer Academy during the 2005 and 2006 camp season. Camp counselor for the Mount Hebron Soccer Camp. Four year varsity player and captain during her senior year for the Mount Hebron Vikings. Selected to the Howard County All-County team and the Maryland All-State team. Five year member of the Maryland Olympic Development Team. Played for WAGS division I travel teams. Currently with regionally and nationally ranked DSC Spirit. Ranked 1st in class of 380. Currently sophomore in college.
Dan Gaertner
Coached at the JB Soccer Academy for several years since its inception in 1993. Has guest coached for various youth travel teams. NCAA Division I senior starting midfielder at Mount St. Mary's and member of the 1994 Maryland, Region I and National Champions, the Baltimore Spirit. Mount St. Mary's leader in assists and second intotal scoring in 1995 and co-captain in 1996. 1992 Howard County High School player of the year and Glenelg soccer MVP. Captained the Glenelg Gladiators to their 1992 state championship. All County and All State and Baltimore All Metro first team. Played for Cheltenham (England) club team (triple county champs and two-time player of the year), Western Howard Wave, the Columbia Phoenix and the Maryland ODP team.
Neil Gwinn
Has coached at the JB Soccer Academy for four years. Captain of the United States World Games for the Deaf soccer team. Represented the USA in New Zealand in 1989 and Bulgaria in 1993. Played travel soccer for the Smithtown Kickers and started for his High School and University teams. Was awarded MVP twice and selected to the All-Tournament team. Holds a Masters degree in counseling from Western Maryland College and is currently an elementary school counselor in Howard County. Previously coached junior varsity and varsity boys and girls soccer for Mount Hebron, Glenelg High and River Hill School.
Michael "Josh" Guidry
Goalkeeper coach at the JB Soccer Academy in the summer of 2000. Played for the Air Force Men's division I squad and selected to the All Air Force team. Has coached high school and Men's division I teams. Has coached at numerous summer training camps.

Bernard Hartog
Director of the Dutch Soccer School. JB Soccer Academy head coach for the summer of 2005 and 2006. Coaching Director at Schilwolde, The Netherlands. Coached for U.S. Ascent Europe Tour, Yahara Soccer Club, Madison, Wisconsin, Winning Mood Camps, and SGV, Schilwolde, The Netherlands. Played for SGV, second division Dutch KNVB, and ZHS Harkstede, first team men's futsal team. Has a UEFA B (140 hours) and C License (70 hours) and Futsal III (36 license) coaching course certificate.

Karel Helder
Top amateur player in Holland. Coached several Dutch youth teams in Holland. Coached at the JB Soccer in the summer of 1999. Has coached and assistant coached several youth teams in Holland. Currently a well known writer for major newspapers and television shows.
Errick Henlon
Grew up playing soccer in the streets of Jamaica. Has been a coach at the JB Soccer Academy each year since 1994. Fifteen years experience as varsity head coach. Led the Howard Community College varsity team to four consecutive winning seasons and three final playoff appearances. Coached high school soccer in Jamaica from 1978 - 1989. Coached college in Jamaica during the 1985 - 86 season. Selected National Coach of the Year with the Howard Community College track team.
Gertjan "LJ" Hoffer
Coached at the JB Soccer Academy during the Summers of 1998 and 1999. Head coach at the VBH 1998 Winter Camp. Born in Groningen, The Netherlands. Ten year resident of Israel. Played for prominent Dutch outdoor and indoor youth soccer teams. Graduate of the prestigious Dutch "Academy for Physical Education".
Hal Kenny
Head coach at the JB Soccer Academy during the summers of 2004, 2005 and 2006. Assistant men's soccer coach at Howard Community College. Born in Spain. Played for many youth and adult teams. Also coached for the Soccer Association of Columbia and currently with the S.C. Thunder in Western Howard County.
Peter Klisas
Peter Klisas played in his home country, Greece, with prominent youth teams up to the age of 15. A few years after immigrating to the United States he signed with the Greek-Americans in Washington, and was a player/coach with the North County Aces. During the past nine years he has very successfully coached various boys and girls travel teams. He led Glenelg HS to the State Championship and the Columbia Stars to division I WAGS. He now coaches the NCSL Div.I Thunder. Peter holds a national USSF coaching license and a NSCAA national advanced diploma.
Natalie Klisas
Assistant coach at the JB Soccer Academy for two years. Graduate of the River Hill girls varsity soccer team. State Champions in  1997 and 1999. Selected to All-State and All-County teams. Prominent player for division I WAGS team and four-time member of the Maryland Olympic Development Team. Currently on a full soccer scholarship at Towson University and a member of the Greek Women's National Team.
Jon Larsson
Head coach for the JB Soccer Academy in 2004 and 2005. Has played and coached extensively for various Howard County Soccer Association of Columbia and S.C. Thunder travel teams. Currently starting sweeper for the 10 time Howard County Recreational division I champions, S.C Thunder Ajax.
Eric McAleer
Played professionally in Scotland for 8 years. By age 16 he had won two national championships with the Kilpatrick Juveniles and he represented his country at the U-16 and U-21 levels. After playing with division I club Falkirk, he moved on to East Stirling and Pollok, Vale in the semi-pro ranks. He is the regional coaching assessor for MSYSA. Eric is a full-time Physical Education teacher, operates a soccer tour company (Excel International Sports) and holds a Scottish A-1 coaching license.
Lindie McDonough
Played varsity soccer for Wilde Lake High from 1996 through 2000. Member of a division I WAGS travel team for 11 years. Captained the Howard Community College women's team and was one of the coaches of the U17 Soccer Association of Columbia premier travel team. JB Soccer coach from 2002 through 2004.
Ali McDonough
JB Soccer Academy assistant coach during the summers of 2001, 2002 and 2003. Played soccer since the age of 4. Currently on the Wilde Lake varsity girls soccer team and member of the Howard County All County Team. Was one of Wilde Lake's senior leaders in 2005.
Jordan McDonough
Assistant coach for the JB Soccer Academy during the summer of 2005 and 2006. Varsity player at Wilde Lake High School. Played on various travel soccer teams in Howard County and assisted with various coaching tasks.
Mohsen Mohammadi
JB Soccer Academy assistant coach and assistant to the director during the summers of 2001 and 2002. Played soccer in the streets of Iran, where he grew up. Varsity player as a freshman for Long Reach. Currently a junior on the River Hill varsity team. Played on the Columbia Crush, a division I premier travel team and State Cup finalist. Played on Maryland O.D.P., where he traveled to Brazil to play Sao Poalo and Santos F.C. juniors.
Chris Nemeh
Six year travel team player and 2 year Mt. Hebron High School starter as a goalkeeper. Assistant goalkeeper coach for the JB Soccer Academy during the summers of 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 and head field player and goalkeeper coach in 2005 and 2006.  Currently a senior attending Virginia Tech University.
Russell Payne
Goalkeeper coach for the JB Soccer Academy from 1993 through 1998, and currently assistant coach with the nationally renowned Maryland Terps. Has trained with DC United and played with the MLS Colarado Rapids after a brief professional soccer experience with Holland's Volendam and the A-league New Orleans. Played for the U-21 United States national team; NCAA Division I four year starting goalkeeper for the nationally ranked University of Maryland Terrapins. Starting goalkeeper for the 1994 national champions, the Baltimore Spirit. Captain of the 1992 state champions Glenelg High School. All County, All State and All Metro (Baltimore) in 1992. Six year member and three time state champion with the Soccer Association of Columbia, the Crew.
Greg Potember
Assistant coach for the JB Soccer Academy during the summer of 2005. River Hill junior varsity and varsity soccer player and outdoor track runner in 2003/2004. River Hill Scholar Athlete award recipient. Thunder travel team player. Grade 8 referee. Counselor for Glenelg Country School Day Camp. American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certified.
Casey Potocki
Has coached with the JB Soccer Academy for the past four years and is currently coaching middle and
upper school men's soccer at McDonogh school in Owings Mills. Casey played Div III soccer at Washington
University, St. Louis, under coach Ty Keough, was a four year varsity player and captain at McDonogh high school, and played local club soccer with the Columbia Crew in 1993. He has trained under various college and national level coaches programs including JerryYeagley, 6 time NCAA Div I champion at Indiana University, John Kowalski, former USA men's nationalindoor coach, and Andy Roxborough, former Scottish
national coach.
Danielle Prietz
Has coached at the JB Soccer Academy for several years since 1997. Graduate of Frostburg University Varsity Women’s soccer team. Four time player of the week and one of the school’s all-time goal scorers with more than 50 goals and 25 assists. Selected MVP and All-Region and All Mid-Atlantic at Frostburg University. All-state and All-county varsity player for South Carroll High School. Played on the United States challenge team in Europe (Sweden and Norway). Coached and refereed girls youth soccer and lacrosse teams . Currently assistant coach of the women's soccer team at Howard Community College and head coach at Banneker Middle School.
Stoian Pumpalov
Played professionally at Levski Sofia in Bulgaria for 11 years and then became player/coach for a professional club in Malta for 5 years. Participated in European Cup competition (Champions League) during two seasons. Has been accepted to serve as Director of Coaching for the Princeton Soccer Association. Coach at the JB Soccer Academy in the summer of 2000 and 2001.
Gordon Robertson
Semi-professional soccer player from Scotland. Licensed Scottish coach. One of the founders of the newly revamped Clyde Banks "Bankies". Coached youth teams in Scotland. Newspaper writer and sports journalist for professional Scottish squad. Coach for the JB Soccer Academy from 2000 through 2004.
Ryan Semple
Professional soccer player from Ireland. Has played for the Irish premier team, Derry City. Also played professionally in England. Member of N. Ireland national team. Was captain and top scorer of his high school and county soccer teams. Has coached for the JB Soccer Academy since 1996.
Adrie Schagen
Played soccer since 1965, first in the streets of Amsterdam, then with reputable youth clubs in Holland. Has coached several Dutch youth teams. Coach at the JB Soccer Academy during the summer of 2000 and 2001 and 2003.
JJ Schmaal
Currently coach of national youth team in Qatar. Coaching experience with teams in Spain, Germany, Brazil, Holland and Great Brittain and many other countries. Coach at the JB Soccer Academy since 1997. Head coach at the VBH Winter Camps. Coached several Soccer Association of Columbia/ Howard County premier and classic travel teams. Born and raised in Groningen, The Netherlands. Played for prominent Dutch youth teams. Graduate of the prestigious Dutch "Academy for Physical Education" (ALO). Coached the youth teams of Dutch professional club F.C. Groningen and director of various soccer camps around the United States.
Kate Seagroves
Currently nationally ranked Howard Community College's women's head coach and Soccer Association of Columbia/Howard County premier travel coach. Previously coached at NC Wesleyan and Middle Tennessee State University for a total of 4 years. Starting varsity soccer player at NC Wesleyan College. Holds a USSF coaching license.
Lennart Ten Have
Graduate of the prestigious ALO, a school for Physical Education and Training in Groningen, The Netherlands. Specializes in soccer education. Played soccer for 18 years. Currently coach of youth players in The Netherlands. Also certified ski instructor.

Christopher Tod
Head coach for the JB Soccer Academy since 2004. British soccer coach, on staff with Challenger Sports of the Northeast region of the USA, and Manchester, England. Attended the University of Manchester and the University of Salford in England. Currently an active player for the Ajax CC United in Howard County, and public school teacher since 2004.

Henri Tillart
Henri has coached youth soccer in Holland for the past eight years. He has played with reputable clubs in Amsterdam for the past 35 years. He is currently Coordinator of youth soccer for his club in Amsterdam-Noord and also helps coach the senior men's teams. Henri has a Dutch coaching license. Coach at the JB Soccer Academy during the summer of 2000 and 2002.
Jan Van Dijken
Jan (Hoppa!) Van Dijken has been coaching with the JB Soccer Academy since 2002. He is a long time player and a licensed Dutch coach, originally from Groningen, and has coached numerous Dutch youth travel teams. Despite being a "Feyenoord" supporter :), Jan is one of the most popular international coaches on the staff.
Andy Walter
Has assisted and coached at the JB Soccer Academy since its inception in 1993. Goalkeeper specialist with the Academy for the past five years. All-state and All-county goalkeeper for Atholton High School varsity soccer (1996). Has trained with Inter Cardiff and Swansea, professional clubs in Great Britain. Selected to the National Pool of Wales. Competed with the State and Regional champion Columbia Darby in the final of the U-18 National Championships. Competed extensively as a youth soccer player with the Soccer Association of Columbia and Western Howard County premier travel teams. Member of the Maryland Olympic Development squad. Currently on scholarship and playing soccer for Winthrop University.
Michael Williams
Coach of the Glenelg High School girls varsity 1997 State Champions. Six year coach at the JB Soccer Academy. Girls Varsity Soccer Coach, Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) and Athletic Director at Glenelg High School. 1997 Central Maryland Coach of the Year. Coached boys soccer, football, baseball, cross country, and lacrosse at the High School and University varsity levels. Received a Masters of Liberal Arts (1976) and a Masters of Education in the Administration of Athletics and Physical Education (1984) from Western Maryland College. Certified by the National Sports Performance Association (NSPA) as a certified conditioning specialist.Currently head of sports programs for the Howard County Public School system.
Nick Zaron
Coach at the JB Soccer Academy since the summer of 2001 and 2002. Four year starter for the Atholton High School boys soccer team. Played travel soccer since the age of 8. Currently playing for the Bethesda Alliance and in college.
